Jersey Boys Tickets - 'Jersey Boys' Extends Its Run Through July 2011

Fans that weren't able to get Jersey Boys tickets to see the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical during its latest run have another chance. NewYorkTheatreGuide online reports that Jersey Boys will now remain on the stage through July 3, 2011. Now in its fourth year, Jersey Boys debuted at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, Calif. in October 2004. The musical became the most successful production in the history of the La Jolla Playhouse and its run was extended three times.

Jersey Boys opened on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in November 2005 to instant praise. The musical is produced on Broadway by Dodger Theatricals, Joseph J. Grano, Tamara and Kevin Kinsells, Pelican Group in association with Latitude Link and Rick Steiner/Oshen/Staton/Bell/Mayerson Group. Fans don't have to travel to the Big Apple to see Jersey Boys, however, as the cast is on tour and stopping in cities like Baltimore, Md.; Boston, Mass.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Miami, Fla.; Milwaukee, Wis.; New York, N.Y.; Philadelphia, Pa.; St. Louis, Mo. and Tampa, Fla.

Although characters like Pauly D and Mike "The Situation" from MTV's popular reality show Jersey Shore are gaining a lot of press, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were the original boys from the Garden State-and they are also the subject of the musical Jersey Boys. Jersey Boys is the musical biography of the New Jersey-bred group. Frankie Valli was born Francis Casteluccio in Newark, N.J. Although he first found his love of music listening to R&B groups like the Clovers and the Drifters, Valli knew his calling after catching a Frank Sinatra performance when he was just seven years old.

Valli formed his first group with guitarist brothers Nick and Tommy DeVito and bassist Hank Makewski and the group enjoyed minor success under the name the Four Lovers in 1956, even performing on The Ed Sullivan Show and meeting Elvis Presley, who was also a rising star at the time. Bob Gaudio and Nick Massie replaced Nick DeVito and Majewski in 1960 and the newly minted group changed its name to the Four Seasons.

After inking a record deal with Vee-Jee Records, the Four Seasons scored their first No. 1 single, "Sherry," in 1962. The No. 1 hits continued-"Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," "Candy Girl," "Stay" and "Alone"-and the Four Seasons enjoyed success, despite numerous lineup changes, through the '60s. While remaining part of the group, Valli launched a solo career in 1965, after which point the group began releasing songs under the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Valli left the group in 1979 and the Four Seasons soon disbanded, although they reunited in 1980. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Jersey Boys features music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe and is directed by Des McAnuff with a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The musical cleaned up at the 2006 Tony Awards, winning awards for Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (John Lloyd Young for his portrayal of Frankie Valli), Lighting for a Musical and Featured Actor in a Musical (Christian Hoff for his portrayal of Tommy DeVito).
